1282210_abstract_noteI am proud to say I am taking on The Media Barista’s February Challenge, along with pushing SiteMast out into the blogosphere.  I suggest you head over to the Media Barista, as she is posting once a day for the month! (Brave Barista!)

I sat and thought about songs that would inspire me, and allow all of these fabulous posts just flow through my fingertips and inspire creativity to everyone who read it. Guess what, I over thought everything. Every song, every idea, every thought… I put myself “Under Pressure”.

This got me to thinking about all of the “pressure” that is put on all of us in the social media community, whether it is real pressure or pressure we put on ourselves. Pressure to write the next content filled blog, pressure to understand the next change Facebook has put out, pressure to keep up with the social media company 5 miles down the road from you, pressure to get the client with the perfect pitch…the list goes on and on.

I am guilty of all of the above, and more.

For this first week of this fabulous blogging challenge…I am going to challenge YOU! Take this week, and remember why you got into this business. Forget about the customers that are never happy, the plugin that refuses to work or the most amazing blog that your colleague posted that is getting rave reviews.

Here are some of the reasons I love being in the Social Media Community:

  • Getting to work with some great social media tools
  • Being able to put my voice/thoughts out
  • Meeting incredible people all over the world
  • Collaborating with creative people every day
  • Being part of many communities
  • Helping others who are learning right along with me
  • Being able to meet YOU! :)

Let me know what your reasons are for being in social media!

Do not forget to have a great week, and when the pressure builds up, take a step back, breathe and remember all of the great things that come from being in this massive community! And don’t you all agree that Queen just rocks? (shame we all think of Vanilla Ice when we hear this song!)

  1. Mallie Hart says:

Well done, Laurie. Pressure, when it builds up, has to explode. Better to back it up a bit and make realistic goals that ensure we aren’t quite so pressurized!

Every time I hear the opening bars to this song I have to hope, out loud, that it is, indeed, Under Pressure and NOT that horrid Vanilla Ice “contribution”.

  2. Brooke Ballard says:

AWESOME, Laurie! Pressure is such a great song for what we do – and probably any work situation. And who doesn’t love this song?

I have to say, with honesty, that I liked the Vanilla Ice song back in the day. My friends and I even came up with a dance to go with the song. Okay … Britney … Ice … yeah, it’s ALL out there.

    Great challenge post!

  3. admin says:

Thank you both for your kind words. I just had to show the world there was this song before Vanilla Ice!!!!!!! I agree with both of you, we put a lot of pressure on ourselves. Especially with how fast paced social media moves, and I love Mallie’s ideas on prioritizing. I need to get better at that!

  4. Nancy says:

Terrific article and music! Pressure aside, you are so right, there are so many opportunities to meet incredible people, collaborate, and help others. Nicely said!

  5. Dorien Morin-van Dam says:

Oh, another song I love. Queen goes nicely with ABBA! 😉 GREAT piece, Laurie and yes, don’t we all feel the pressure? I’ve made a concerted effort to scale back in 2013… at least with what I say yes to. And it is working!

  6. Shannon Baker says:

This is a great post Laurie! Ironic that it’s about pressure; I was feeling a lot of it last week so I unplugged from the internet until yesterday afternoon and now I feel great! Stepping away for a little while helped me get a fresh take on things and I pushed out a brand new blog today for a client today that I’ve been struggling with.

Like you, I love social medis because it has enabled me to expand my knowledge and best of all I’ve met many wonderful people in some great social communities!

  7. admin says:

I should unplug more, you are completely right in that idea. When it is me myself and I running this company…it can get hard to step away. And yes I get to meet people like you, and that is why I love social media! :) Thank you for your comment!
